Poof: Many a Girl, 2006
There’s a girl in the alley.
She’s young. Don’t mess with her.
Now, there, she’s in the snow
walking through it all. She’s blond
and then she’s hispanic, she’s beauty
itself. Look at her house, it’s true.
She’s cutting through the parking structure
she’s on her way. Her head is down.
She’s got a bag--she’s got a ribbon in her hair.
She’s got it all. Many a girl. A girlie.
She’s going. Where? Her face is peace
walking out of a room, on her way,
get out of it. What did she say?
Did you hear? I don’t hear nothing.
Just the silence of history, the tracks
of the road’s she’s walked. The places
she’s been. Get out her way. She’s a
girl on the move. And then, she’s still
creating her--just wait. Shhh!! And tell
me what you see. Is it true
that I can be so completely in love
with her? Just like that.
That’s how it always happens--
poof! And it’s done. Solid.
