Bless Thee, 2006
for Diana & Nelson on the occasion of their wedding
I see the both of you
standing on a beach,
wrapped tightly,
smiling in the sun.
Both WITH your chosen mates,
the ones.
Will your eyes open wider?
Can I climb inside?
I was abound with joy,
it was a burst.
When she came in
ready to play,
dressed in white.
A hot summer day.
It had been a dark and joyous night.
There’s a picture of you,
laying in bed,
with smiles bigger than the sky,
wider.
Remember when
I walked the beaches
with you?
We could always see
where we were TO GO,
THAT WAY & this.
“Follow me!” and I ran.
I feel the words
that I weave for you two,
you four.
Always fresh-faces
looking FOR me.
I turn once again to you,
towards you.
There is a beauty
at your side
who figures which
way the money should go
and her eyes are deep
her crown glorious.
She is brightness.
She shines.
You instantly buy her a circle, that almost reflects
as much as you do OFF OF HER.
Her brilliance blinds me.
and I inhale deeply.
I had asked you what you knew.
And you had said, “Yes.”
I had never heard you so definite before
“Yes, I want her.”
I said to tell her
and you did,
you both rejoiced.
I turned in my
sheets,
miles away,
with joy sneaking through my dreams.
“Yes, I want to marry her.” “Yes,
I want this.” “I want our family.”
Do you really
know how a family feels?
Do you really know
how soft and deep this is?
Do you
know how far a tigress can leap from here?
My blessing for you two
is forever.
My wish for you
is joy.
My intention is solid.
My strength
is to take,
to laugh with,
to seek shelter within.
I bless this union
as your ears are mine.
I bless you separate
and still.
I bless you together.
May your days
be sweet & calm
and may your love penetrate
fully.
For this is a marriage of joy,
of permanence
within constant flux.
Carry this blessing and hold it dear.
When you think of today,
think of us
here,
and remember
we are ALL OF THIS union,
of both of you.
We cast you forward
Of two in one.
Of three.
Of ten. Of hundreds.
Of we.
Of you.
We bless thee.
